The Chef's Zone 👩🏻‍🍳

Sometimes referred to as the "Kitchen Work Triangle," the space connecting the fridge, sink, and stove is a chef's most valuable real estate—especially during the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving meal prep! 🦃

In the kitchen seen in these photos, the zone is all on the inside of the island, but in some layouts, the sink or stove might be part of an island, forming the traditional triangle. Regardless the "shape" these three elements are usually not that far from each other but exceptions happen!

No matter the setup, any chef will tell you this is their sacred workspace. And on a busy cooking day like Thanksgiving, they'll kindly (or not-so-kindly!) remind you to steer clear of their zone.

When it comes to kitchen renovations, balancing natural light and storage is key! For this project, we maximized storage without sacrificing the charm of small windows by installing cabinets on either side of the stove.

Instead of full-height cabinets, we opted for vertical lift doors that fit seamlessly into the design. These cabinets are perfect for storing tall boxes or commonly used cooking ingredients, keeping everything within reach while maintaining an open and airy feel. Swipe ➡ to see what we mean.

Thank you @houzz for the recent feature about "Fashionable and Functional Curbless Showers" featuring one of our barrier-free shower entry renovations.

"J.P. Hoffman Design Build rejiggered the layout in this relaxing and luxurious Needham, Massachusetts, primary bathroom to create an airy arrangement with a curbless shower and freestanding tub. White Venatino marble tiles run in a herringbone pattern on the floor. Sky blue fish scale tiles accent the shower head wall and two niches. Fixtures in a luxe gold finish add touches of warmth."

Are you debating whether to remove or add a wall b

Are you debating whether to remove or add a wall between the kitchen and an adjacent room?

In this Colonial kitchen and first-floor renovation, we did both—and gained a mudroom in the process.

Here's what we did:
1. Added a small wall to block the hallway from the garage to the kitchen, creating space for a tall pantry (photo 5).
2. Removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room (photos 2–5).

Building the new wall allowed for additional kitchen cabinet space and a better entryway/mudroom on the garage/powder room side (photo 6).

The last two images are stripped-down blueprint screenshots to illustrate these changes: red lines show modifications to come on the "as-built" (pre-demo), and the blue lines on the final image highlight the new wall separating the kitchen from the new mudroom.

...No shower door! The shower is located in an alcove of the primary bathroom. In their forever home, our clients wanted to think long term. To make it aging-in-place and mobility-friendly, we opted for a linear drain at the shower entrance and left the door off, creating a seamless, curbless entry.

With plenty of floor space, we couldn’t understand why the kitchen was tucked into a corner—so tight that a modern refrigerator couldn’t even fit and had to be placed in a back closet, creating a hassle for homeowners who love to cook and entertain.

So, we reimagined the layout, turning the oversized dining room into an expansive kitchen with a large island and ample space for appliances.

September is always a special month for us—fille

September is always a special month for us—filled with celebrations, from Jason’s and our son’s birthdays to both our work and wedding anniversaries. Plus- we got to meet the newest member of the family in our sweet newborn baby nephew.

As the month comes to a close, we’re also reflecting on some exciting things happening around here. We’re wrapping up a kitchen remodel in Canton, making progress on our own office bathroom addition, and gearing up for new kitchen and bathroom remodels, plus an exciting primary suite addition. We also can’t wait to reveal our new branding photos.
