✨Hidden Laundry Shut Off Valves✨

Would you believe it if we told you there was a hidden panel hiding the shut-off valves in this laundry room?

To keep the backsplash area clean and seamless, we always offer this as an option when installing a wood countertop over front-loading washers and dryers.

👨‍🔧 We strategically work with our plumber to place the valves at a reachable height behind the units and simply design and build a three-panel countertop with one of those panels removable, accessed by an inconspicuous thumbhole drilled into the wood.

Hopefully, those valves do not need to be accessed often, but if they do, anyone can handle if necessary.

It might seem bold, but when clients trust us to think outside the box, we can often transform challenges into opportunities.

Case in point: our #JPHWestwoodCape project. The original kitchen slider (photo #3) not only cramped eat-in dining setup, but also posed safety concerns with no backyard egress (swipe for exterior shots). We seized the chance to replace it with a window, opening up prime wall space for cabinets, a spacious sink area, and ample countertop for meal prep and entertaining. Plus, it freed up room for a dream island!

By relocating the slider to the kitchen-dining room transition (see photo #7 for the wall we removed between spaces), we crafted a seamless indoor-outdoor connection, linking the kitchen to a stunning backyard oasis.

As a Design Build company, we frequently reimagine spaces, addressing layout issues to enhance functionality. However, in the case of this Primary Bathroom, the existing layout was sufficient but outdated, lacking storage and featuring an unsafe, leaky jacuzzi deck-mounted tub.

Our clients sought a tranquil retreat, prompting us to replace the old jacuzzi with a sleek soaker tub, install radiant floor heat, and create a spacious, curbless shower. We retained the back-to-back vanity layout, now with added storage, and opted for a serene sage green hue complemented by classy brushed nickel finishes.✨

When the vision becomes reality...with one important change ⬇

We brought our client's vision to life with the help of a comprehensive design process, before demolition started! BUT, she asked us to pivot at what she thought was the 11th hour. She believed her wallpaper selection was too much blue for one wall, and we agreed! (see photo #3). Because we plan all the details, this change actually wasn't a big deal. (We'll let you know what can and can't be changed late in the design process). We shared more samples and checked stock and shipping ETAs, and ordered her selected new wallpaper with plenty of time to spare. (Photo #1).

How do you transition from tile to hardwood floors

How do you transition from tile to hardwood floors?

We share one of the ways in this Reel, by using a common trim piece called Schluter Tile Edge or sometimes referred to as “Jolly Edge.”

It allows for a seamless and clean transition between the new tile floor and existing hardwood flooring. This is common when renovating a bathroom but not necessarily the adjacent hallway for example.

One of our most frequently asked questions is.....

"What paint color is that?"

It can be quite amusing when I spot someone slowly creeping by our office, which happens to be located in a 19th Century Carriage Barn. I realize they’re taking a photo from the front seat of their car and chuckle to myself because I know exactly what they’re up to.

Everyone is curious about the deep muted green color that stands out among the standard whites and grays often seen on New England homes. Just yesterday, a gentleman approached with paint samples in hand. When Jason asked if he could assist him, the gentleman explained that he and his wife were painting the exterior of their home and had been inspired by the colors of our barn office. So, he was on a mission to match it. What he wasn’t expecting was Jason intercepting his detective work, inviting him into the workshop, and providing him with the exact information he was ready to work so hard to find.

✔️By reclaiming some space from the spacious Primary Bedroom of our #jphnewton83 bathroom project, we gained valuable square footage for a luxury walk-in shower, a custom linen cabinet, and a DOUBLE VANITY. We relocated the shower and used the longest wall for not one, but two sinks!

⁉ How can your kitchen work for you?

🙋🏻‍♀This is a question we often ask our clients when starting the kitchen design process. Arguably the hardest working room in the house, how can design and materials decisions alleviate some of the heavy lifting?

Two examples from our #JPHStoughton project:

1⃣ Design a space for a "working sink." (see photo 2 and a video in our "Kitchen/DR Swap" Story Highlight). This is the @kohler 44" Prolific Sink with integrated accessories and multiple work areas including a bamboo cutting board, drying racks and a wash bin.

2⃣ For easier mornings with 3 growing kids, our clients selected @thermador Panel-Ready Under-Counter Double Drawer Refrigerators. (Photo #3) We strategically placed these fridge drawers on the cooktop side of the island. Our clients use these for common breakfast items like eggs, bacon and bread, ready for the cooktop! How smart are they!? Photo #4 shows the drawers seamlessly integrated into the island, thanks to the panel ready drawer fronts.

Floor Plan Swap-a-Roo 🔁

We successfully transformed a previously dark and cramped kitchen into a spacious and functional area within our client’s home. 🏠

This involved relocating the kitchen to an underutilized space, where we installed new cabinetry, countertops, appliances, and flooring. Additionally, we replaced the slider seen in photo #2 with a large window to provide a beautiful backyard view from the kitchen sink. 🌳

The former kitchen sink area was redesigned with another large window to bring in ample natural light, transforming it into the ideal dining room spot (Photos #3 and #4). 🍽️
