New Project Alert! Modernizing bathrooms in a 1930's 4-bedroom colonial nestled amidst Boston's best neighborhoods in Newton, MA Our team has been hard at work on two bathroom remodels in Newton, MA. The home, built in the 1930s, features two upstairs bathrooms with a distinct vintage charm. While there's a certain allure to that charm, it's time for a modern upgrade! The existing Primary Bathroom, in particular, is small and leaves much to be desired. And the guest bathroom may not have been updated since the 70's. This post will showcase our starting point (with before photos) and our envisioned outcome (with 3D renderings). Follow along on our Instagram Stories for progress updates. Enlarging the Primary Bathroom & Closet At the beginning of every project, we always ask our clients to share their wants and needs list, as well as their design inspiration, usually via a Houzz Ideabook. 2023-04-06T17:15:24-04:00

New Project Alert! Our team recently started production on a Primary Bathroom renovation in Westwood, MA. This post will highlight where we started (with before photos) and where we are going (with 3D renderings). Be sure to follow along on our Instagram Stories for progress updates. Remodel doesn't always mean Reinvention When our client first contacted us, she shared that she wanted to turn her uninspiring bathroom into a retreat space. On the wish list? Replacing the old deck mounted jacuzzi tub with a stand-alone soaker tub. She also shared she would love a larger, tile shower. She enlisted our help to assess and discover if and how the shower could be enlarged. There is a sweet spot with shower sizing. It should be large enough to move around but not too big that the warm air escapes, leaving cold air and an uncomfortable experience (this can happen with

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT - 1850 FARMHOUSE INTERIOR RENOVATIONS One of oldest homes we’ve had the pleasure to work on, this 1850 South Shore farmhouse, located in Middleboro, MA, needed some interior renovations after a water leak on the second floor. Not only did the water damage impact the two bedrooms on the second floor, but also the first floor guest room. After the homeowner shared his vision with us, we got to work bringing it to reality. What resulted are three unique spaces, designed and crafted with timeless appreciation. The two second floor bedrooms are identical in size - one located on each side of the staircase landing. Used as kid's bedrooms, we took advantage of the sloped ceilings and installed shiplap for fun character. The white paint brings a modern feel to an old space. Do you

Video Tour, Before and After Kitchen and 1st Floor Renovation

2020-08-28T16:56:48-04:00

Are you a visual person? Take a virtual tour with us as we documented the major milestones of this kitchen and 1st floor renovation project in West Bridgewater. We took a dark and "small" kitchen as the homeowners thought, and expanded the space to include their dream island and a custom breakfast nook. We even relocated a bathroom/laundry room to gain additional square footage. In the process, we added a closet next to the mudroom. We walk through each phase of the renovation - driven by the 5 design goals our team committed to achieving. We've included some design renderings as well as the before photos and video of these spaces. Plus some progress updates with an overview from our Owner and lead project designer and carpenter, Jason Hoffman. We even take you into our workshop as Jason created the custom breakfast nook benches. The photos, snapped by Tamara Flanagan

Project Highlight – Westwood Addition & Whole House Remodel

2021-02-17T11:05:19-05:00

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT - Westwood Addition & Whole House Renovation Perhaps one of the most exciting things about moving your family to a new home, is the opportunity to personalize it to your own taste. Before the furniture and kitchen gadgets are moved in ask yourself: "how can this home suit MY family?" "Is it possible to fit an island in the kitchen?" "I'd like to see into my daughter's playroom, while cooking, can we knock down that wall?" "We'd love a Master Suite, but is there space for that?"  Here at J.P. Hoffman Design Build, we're able to answer all those questions, concerns and problems through the Design Phase of our Design Build process. Our newest project is a perfect example of this. Our clients asked some of those same questions. This project is a multi-scope renovation of a 1954 Cape style home in Westwood, MA. Purchased for

Finding More Space for a Dream Kitchen

Needs List vs. Nice-to-have List We hear it all the time. Our clients love the trust, creativity and reliability built with the J.P. Hoffman Design Build team. This beautiful kitchen remodel is a product of the process that builds that trust. We stand out among our peers as a team that listens to the wants, needs and pain points of potential clients. President and CEO, Jason Hoffman met with these homeowners and took their goals to paper. We always recommend homeowners have their Needs List and their Nice-to-have List ready for this initial consultation meeting. Jason listened to their renovation goals and noted their layout concerns - the "Needs List." But he also paid attention to their wish list items, finding ways to incorporate this "Nice-to-have list" into the design later on. Jason designed 3 different layout options and walked the homeowners through the pros and cons of

Defying the odds with Design Build

Open Concept Kitchen We started an open concept kitchen renovation in Norton, MA this week. We're re-configuring the 1st floor of a Colonial home, to increase kitchen cabinet storage and improve the flow for a family of four with two growing teenagers. Our in-house design team worked closely with the homeowners, designing the space so they could visualize the renovation before it started and offer feedback. The Owners also really wanted a kitchen island but were told by multiple other sources that it couldn't happen because they didn't have enough space. Our in-house design team not only found the space for an island, but found more than enough room to create an open concept floor plan at the same time. This is the approved 3D Rendering design. What about the load bearing wall? As designers and builders, our team of talented craftsman offer professional and safe opinions on how
