Timeless Classic: Primary Bathroom Transformation

2024-10-10T10:31:13-04:00

Converting a single sink Primary Bathroom to a Double Vanity See how we transformed a small and outdated Primary Bathroom into a sophisticated retreat We’re excited to share the successful completion of our latest bathroom renovation, a project that truly transformed the space into a luxurious retreat. From start to finish, our team worked diligently to reimagine every corner, enhancing functionality and style in a way that reflects our clients’ vision perfectly. This vision was a larger space, with a luxury walk-in shower and a double vanity. But they didn't know how to add square footage. We first introduced this project via this blog post which includes elevated 3D renderings with our client's exact (or as close as we could get) finishes. Where did the additional space come from? At the outset of this project, we asked our clients to share their list of wants and needs, along with

This Kitchen renovation was almost bigger than it needed to be

2024-10-02T11:02:54-04:00

We took a hard left from the original plan... We were hired to design and build a single story kitchen addition off the back of New England Colonial. Shortly after he got started on the design process, J.P. Hoffman Design Build Owner, CEO and Lead Designer Jason Hoffman pumped the brakes. He quickly realized that an addition was probably unnecessary when there was existing space on the 1st floor not being utilized to it's potential. That sounds like a house pep talk but it's true. In design conversations with our clients, he agreed that yes, the current galley style kitchen was not working for their family of 5 and growing teenagers who like to have friends over and hang out in the kitchen (smart kids). He also recognized that the formal dining room (being used as a playroom and home gym) would make the ideal new home of the

Basement Reinvention in Westwood, MA: Our Next Big Renovation

2024-06-06T10:43:14-04:00

From Storage to Stylish Basement Office, Guest Bedroom, Bathroom & Playroom Adding Basement Square Footage We love when clients call us back for another renovation. A few years ago, we transformed almost every square inch of the main living spaces of this Cape-style home in Westwood, MA. You can see how we transformed the first floor and kitchen here and added a garage with Primary Suite above here. This time, our clients asked us to finish their basement. As their family grew, they converted their second-floor home office into a nursery, leaving our homeowner working at the dining room table. We needed to find a new, more appropriate, and private workspace for a work-from-home client. The existing walkout basement leads to a large patio space, which is under the dining room bump out and deck our team added during the original project. You can also see the existing dining

Answering one of our most frequently asked questions

2024-04-02T15:44:51-04:00

One of the most common questions we answer from strangers is: "What paint color is that?" It can be quite amusing when I spot someone slowly creeping by our office, which happens to be located in a 19th Century Carriage Barn. I realize they're taking a photo from the front seat of their car and chuckle to myself because I know exactly what they're up to. But some are bolder than others. They park in the driveway, stride up to the office, and instead of popping in for a visit, they hold up paint chips, attempting to match a color in their hand with our siding or door color. It's rather hysterical. This scenario recently unfolded when Jason happened to be outside the barn. A gentleman approached with paint samples in hand. When Jason asked if he could assist him, the gentleman explained that he and his wife were

New Project Alert! Modernizing bathrooms in a 1930's 4-bedroom colonial nestled amidst Boston's best neighborhoods in Newton, MA Our team has been hard at work on two bathroom remodels in Newton, MA. The home, built in the 1930s, features two upstairs bathrooms with a distinct vintage charm. While there's a certain allure to that charm, it's time for a modern upgrade! The existing Primary Bathroom, in particular, is small and leaves much to be desired. And the guest bathroom may not have been updated since the 70's. This post will showcase our starting point (with before photos) and our envisioned outcome (with 3D renderings). Follow along on our Instagram Stories for progress updates. Enlarging the Primary Bathroom & Closet At the beginning of every project, we always ask our clients to share their wants and needs list, as well as their design inspiration, usually via a Houzz Ideabook. Custom Powder Room Vanity – Needham

2023-10-17T13:38:02-04:00

From its raw state, we designed and created a one-of-a-kind powder room vanity *All known materials listed at bottom of post* We first shared about CEO and Principal Designer/Craftsman Jason Hoffman's Black Walnut adventure here. Today, we're sharing the finished product of this bathroom remodel in Needham, MA.           As a refresher.... Below is a quick render of the design approved by our client. This is a result of Phase 3 of our Design Build process. Jason then started selecting the lumber, considering what part of the vanity each piece would be used for, paying special attention to color, grain patterns and figuring. From there, he started creating and fitting each individual piece.                 Next came sanding, finishing and assembly. Swapping Floor Plans – Kitchen & Dining Room

2023-05-04T09:53:10-04:00

“Wait, show me that again” said our photographer Lara when I showed her the before photo of the entry way of our latest project. She, and many others who see this transformation, are in disbelief about the floor plan modifications we made to this Greater Boston home in Stoughton, MA. The Kitchen Island has replaced the Peloton Bike that used to be in the same space. See how we swapped the kitchen and dining room.  Our Client's Backstory and Floor Plan Dilemma  Built in the mid-1990’s by our client’s family, this colonial was now home to the 3rd generation. The original kitchen was built by our client’s father and had seen years of family meals and holiday entertainment. Our clients called us because the space and flow was no longer working for their family of five. The galley kitchen off the back of

New Project Alert! Elevated Primary Bathroom

2023-04-06T17:15:24-04:00

New Project Alert! Our team recently started production on a Primary Bathroom renovation in Westwood, MA. This post will highlight where we started (with before photos) and where we are going (with 3D renderings). Be sure to follow along on our Instagram Stories for progress updates. Remodel doesn't always mean Reinvention When our client first contacted us, she shared that she wanted to turn her uninspiring bathroom into a retreat space. On the wish list? Replacing the old deck mounted jacuzzi tub with a stand-alone soaker tub. She also shared she would love a larger, tile shower. She enlisted our help to assess and discover if and how the shower could be enlarged. There is a sweet spot with shower sizing. It should be large enough to move around but not too big that the warm air escapes, leaving cold air and an uncomfortable experience (this can happen with
