Open Concept Kitchen
We started an open concept kitchen renovation in Norton, MA this week. We’re re-configuring the 1st floor of a Colonial home, to increase kitchen cabinet storage and improve the flow for a family of four with two growing teenagers. Our in-house design team worked closely with the homeowners, designing the space so they could visualize the renovation before it started and offer feedback. The Owners also really wanted a kitchen island but were told by multiple other sources that it couldn’t happen because they didn’t have enough space. Our in-house design team not only found the space for an island, but found more than enough room to create an open concept floor plan at the same time. This is the approved 3D Rendering design.
What about the load bearing wall?
As designers and builders, our team of talented craftsman offer professional and safe opinions on how to open up spaces. A common solution, engineered beams can replace a load bearing wall and turn almost any layout into an “open concept” space. A buzz phrase in the remodeling industry, many Owners want to literally break down the walls that separate the confined spaces in their homes, offering better flow and function, connecting spaces that once acted as barriers. We most commonly knock down walls between kitchens and dining rooms. Or between kitchens and living rooms.
Did someone say mudroom?
At our Norton kitchen renovation, we’ve already knocked down the wall between the kitchen and dining room. We’re also relocating the hallway that leads from the garage to the kitchen. This will offer more wall space for the expanded kitchen cabinet layout. It also creates an opportunity to build a new mudroom, coming in from the garage to house additional coats, shoes, sports gear, seasonal storage and more! Who wouldn’t want that!? Raise your hand if you’re a parent with kids who seem to have all the contents of their bedroom, locker or sports bag right in the doorway!
There are lots of other details and small changes that go into a renovation like this. Our team happily keeps track of all details, communicating with subcontractors and Owners every step of the way.
Specializing in re-configuring spaces, our Design Build team can design and build your dream kitchen and ideal floor plan.
