Black Walnut Custom Vanity – an intro –

2021-04-16T14:04:18-04:00

Custom Powder Room Vanity We have been on the hunt for some interesting pieces of American Black Walnut for a custom bathroom vanity we're designing and building for a client in Needham. Black Walnut has always been sought after as a fine furniture wood because of it’s workability, beautiful rich color, grain movement and stability. Today, we are seeing it show up more and more in small batch cabinetry and tables. In spite of it’s enduring popularity, it makes up less than 2% of all commercially harvested lumber in America which explains its high cost per board foot. Our client has this vision, of a furniture-grade vanity, with an extra thick stone countertop and beautiful gold faucets. Along with custom wainscoting, new flooring and lights, this Needham half bathroom is getting a full overhaul as part of a 2-bathroom and laundry room renovation. For the purpose of this post,

Recently, one of our kitchen projects was selected as a highlight photo for an article written on Houzz.com. We are honored it was featured on such an important topic - COUNTERTOPS! In the article, titled "What Kitchen Countertop Color Should You Choose?" the author (and Principal Designer) Yanic Simard of Toronto Interior Design Group brings readers through a variety of considerations and color options when selecting a kitchen countertop. There are literally hundreds of options when it comes to countertops. Most options filter into a few main categories like: marble, granite, quartz or wood. Yanic breaks down of few popular options ranging from pure white with crisp and modern lines, to the warm tones of a wood top or a butcher block option. In addition to kitchen surfaces, the same principles apply with bathrooms or other spaces. The photo highlighted in the article is from our South Shore Kitchen

Featured in the Boston Globe

2021-03-06T23:21:24-05:00

As seen in the Boston Globe - September 13, 2020 We are honored and humbled to have one of our projects featured in today's Boston Globe. This project is extra special as it's the story of our own carriage barn - turned workshop and office space. As Globe Correspondent, Marni Elyse Katz said, "it's a great tale of a builder's passion project." Owner and CEO, Jason Hoffman, spent countless hours re-designing the layout to offer a more functional layout for both the first floor workshop and 2nd floor office space. For the complete story, click the photo below. Also below, some never before seen photos of the barn, pre and during renovation. For the complete interior album, visit our portfolio page here. Project Highlight – Westwood Addition & Whole House Remodel

2021-02-17T11:05:19-05:00

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT - Westwood Addition & Whole House Renovation Perhaps one of the most exciting things about moving your family to a new home, is the opportunity to personalize it to your own taste. Before the furniture and kitchen gadgets are moved in ask yourself: "how can this home suit MY family?" "Is it possible to fit an island in the kitchen?" "I'd like to see into my daughter's playroom, while cooking, can we knock down that wall?" "We'd love a Master Suite, but is there space for that?"  Here at J.P. Hoffman Design Build, we're able to answer all those questions, concerns and problems through the Design Phase of our Design Build process. Our newest project is a perfect example of this. Our clients asked some of those same questions. This project is a multi-scope renovation of a 1954 Cape style home in Westwood, MA. Purchased for

Defying the odds with Design Build

Open Concept Kitchen We started an open concept kitchen renovation in Norton, MA this week. We're re-configuring the 1st floor of a Colonial home, to increase kitchen cabinet storage and improve the flow for a family of four with two growing teenagers. Our in-house design team worked closely with the homeowners, designing the space so they could visualize the renovation before it started and offer feedback. The Owners also really wanted a kitchen island but were told by multiple other sources that it couldn't happen because they didn't have enough space. Our in-house design team not only found the space for an island, but found more than enough room to create an open concept floor plan at the same time. This is the approved 3D Rendering design. What about the load bearing wall? As designers and builders, our team of talented craftsman offer professional and safe opinions on how

If this table could talk

2020-02-04T23:11:29-05:00

One of my favorite corners in our barn office is home to this antique drafting table, also known as an architect's table.                                                 Forever an artist, its original purpose, combined with years of use and talent from its previous Owner attracted me. I was in need of a kitchen table at the time and a fan of antiques, I found this piece in an unexpected place. This table has unique backstory; one I love sharing. If this table could talk, it would say: "I'm an antique, picked up on the side of the road by my current owner for $50." "My previous Owner was an artist and used me to draw a TIME Magazine cover many years ago. It was a portrait of Pope John Paul

Master Bathroom Retreat – Norfolk, MA

2020-03-29T15:58:20-04:00

This Master Bathroom in Norfolk received a complete gut, expansion and renovation. Through our Design Build process these homeowners worked with in-house designer Jason Hoffman to create their dream master bathroom retreat. When designing, Jason was able to offer ideas on how to gain square footage, ultimately adding a walk-in shower. Complete with a custom double vanity built by G.B. Woodworking (Norwood) and beautiful tile work by Marshall Tile & Marble Company, this has been one of our favorite transformations to date. See the before and after photos below as well as some 3D renderings approved by the homeowners prior to construction. Our team both designs the renovation AND performs the work. Our talented carpentry crew and trusted subcontractors perfectly executed a design on paper to a well laid out, oasis retreat. Project Details PROJECT LOCATION Norfolk, MA Project Gallery
